Onslow Iron project
Onslow Iron is set to redefine mining in Western Australia through world-first autonomous road trains, industry leading dust free transport and resort-style workforce accommodation.

Overview
Onslow Iron is one of the largest iron ore projects under development in Australia, set to unlock billions of tonnes of stranded deposits in the West Pilbara region.
In May 2024, first ore on ship was achieved ahead of schedule.
The project will ramp up to 35 million tonnes per year, with an expected mine life of more than 30 years.
Onslow Iron is being developed by MinRes on behalf of Red Hill Iron Joint Venture (RHIJV), including partners Baowu, AMCI and POSCO.

Redefining mining through innovation
Onslow Iron’s game changing innovations are designed and developed by MinRes, minimising the project’s environmental footprint and increasing efficiencies.
The supply chain begins with drill and blast activities, before ore is crushed by our NextGen modular crushing plants and stacked into stockpiles.
A dedicated truck loadout facility sets our haulage operation in motion, which road trains making the 150km journey from Ken’s Bore to the Port of Ashburton on our dedicated and private haul road.
Upon arrival at the Port of Ashburton, ore is tipped in our 220,000-tonne capacity storage shed, before being reclaimed onto an enclosed conveyor belt and loaded into transhippers, which transport the ore 40km offshore to awaiting vessels.

Our unique modular technology produces significantly lower dust and noise emissions compared to traditional crushers.
A new standard of living
Onslow Iron will set a new standard in accommodation for the resource industry, with resort-style villages aimed at changing the culture of FIFO living by encouraging more women and couples to live and work on-site.
The central feature is the accommodation that boasts 45 square metres of living space – three times the size of traditional FIFO rooms – and are equipped with a queen size bed, separate ensuite, kitchenette, big screen TV, and a laundry with washer and dryer.
The resort also features a large-scale restaurant, café, swimming pool, indoor fitness centre and outdoor fitness park, tavern, cinema, golf simulators, pool tables, sports court, mini golf, football oval and cricket nets.

Making a positive contribution

Investing in the community
We are committed to making a positive and sustainable impact in the local community.
This includes establishing partnerships with key Onslow organisations, supporting community events and initiatives and providing financial support through the MinRes Community Grant program.

Supporting Traditional Owners
We are working closely with the Thalanyji People and Robe River Kuruma People to ensure the project provides long-term benefits to Traditional Owners.
This includes signing a 50-year agreement to lease land from the Buurabalyji Thalanyji Aboriginal Corporation (BTAC) for the Onslow Iron resort, delivering benefits for the life of the project. At the end of mining operations, this world-class asset will be handed over to BTAC to ensure benefits are ongoing for the Thalanyji People.

Commitment to renewable energy
We are committed to achieving net zero emissions. At Onslow Iron this will focus on displacing diesel with alternative fuels, harnessing renewable solar power, energy storage and electrification of mobile equipment and transport.
