Mineral Resources (MinRes) was proud to once again support the annual Cancer 200 Ride for the Perkins, helping to raise much needed funds for the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.
Almost 2,000 riders took part in this year's two-day event – including 87 MinRes riders – completing the 200km round trip from Perth to Mandurah and back on 12 and 13 October.
The Perkins is a leading Western Australian medical research centre conducting innovative research to tackle some of the world’s biggest health issues. Its world-class teams accelerate delivery of life-saving medical breakthroughs aimed at improving the health of all Western Australians.
The community-focused Cancer 200 Ride for the Perkins is the institute's major fundraising event and the highest fundraising charity cycling event in Australia, this year alone raising more than $10 million.
After an early Saturday morning departure from Perth Stadium, riders travelled 100km to Mandurah and arrived that afternoon for an evening of presentations, dinner and networking. The next morning, participants were back on their bikes and set off for the return journey to Perth.
This year Team MinRes raise an impressive total of $885,999 – including a $10,000 donation from MinRes – bringing team's total contribution to $2.3 million over the past six years.
MinRes rider Chad Holmgreen said he was proud to be part of an engaged and generous team supporting the worthy cause.
"The level of camaraderie and support from such a large group was both motivational and empowering," Chad said.
Fellow team member Asha Nayak enjoyed her first event ride and said it was a privilege to wear the MinRes jersey.
“The ride itself was very challenging, but making it to the finish line was exhilarating," Asha said.
MinRes' strong following for this annual event wouldn’t be possible without a team of volunteers keeping riders hydrated, fed, motivated and safe. This year, 15 MinRes employees and family members generously donated their time.
In addition to Cancer 200 Ride for the Perkins fundraising, MinRes has contributed over $2.5m to the Perkins as part of a proud and longstanding partnership.
Each year, MinRes contributes financial and in-kind support for local organisations and projects that deliver benefits to the communities where we operate.
