Mineral Resources (MinRes) is proud to announce a partnership with Youth Involvement Council (YIC) to support at-risk young people in the Pilbara.
Established in South Hedland in 1987, YIC delivers a range of services, including a youth drop-in centre, crisis accommodation, driver access and equity program and an outreach program and patrol. Their mission is to empower young people to make sound choices and cultivate a brighter outlook for the future.
The three-year partnership will bolster YIC’s Deadly Hearts program, which engages children aged five to 11-years old in after school activities, provides nourishing meals and positivity three days per week.
The program employs local youth mentors to run the after-school sessions. They have a pivotal role in guiding the development of essential social and life skills of participants, while also delivering invaluable case management support.
Deadly Hearts program youth mentor Aimee Taylor has worked with YIC for three years. Aimee said: “It is incredible to have the support of our community for this age group.
“Last year I saw some of our Deadly Heart kids who started when I did, transition from primary school to high school and this year their younger siblings have joined. It says a lot that families trust us with their most precious gifts to ensure they have a safe place to fall, grow, shine and learn.”
YIC Chief Executive Officer Tania Murray said: “Our partnership with Mineral Resources represents a significant milestone for our organisation and the vulnerable children we serve.
