Mineral Resources (MinRes) is proud to continue its annual Christmas Giving program, helping WA not-for-profit organisations spread joy over the festive season.
The program provides donations to women’s and children’s refuges and homelessness and disability support services throughout WA, helping deliver festive experiences such as special lunches, food vouchers, hampers or a family fun day.
Half of the program's beneficiaries service communities where MinRes operates across the Pilbara and Goldfields-Yilgarn regions, with others supporting those in need across the Perth metropolitan area.
MinRes proud to have provided a donation to Hedland Women’s Refuge each year since its Christmas Giving program began, helping the organisation continue to support women escaping family and domestic violence in Port Hedland and South Hedland.
Shellene is the manager of Hedland Women’s Refuge and said MinRes' contributions have helped the organisation to remain creative in best responding to needs during the festive season.
“The support received from MinRes through the festive season adds valuable impact in our local community by easing the pressure off families at a time that can already be overwhelming,” Shellene said.
“This year our clients and their families have been involved in the whole process, from planning and preparing meals to decorating and delivering hampers.”
“This has presented opportunities for capacity-building, strengthening of skills and the natural development of peer support. Witnessing the pride women glow with makes giving back truly amazing,” she added.
St John of God Horizon House is another organisation MinRes has supported since 2019 through its Christmas Giving program.
Horizon Houses provides young people experiencing homelessness with a safe space they need to build the life they want.
Through MinRes' donation, Horizon House has expanded access to recreation activities and provided a "house" Christmas gifts for all young people to enjoy.
Horizon House Manager of Youth Services Dana Anderson said MinRes' support had a profound impact on young people and their families.
“MinRes helps us offer rich recreational activities and enhanced shared amenities and shows these individuals that they are cared for and valued. It's a wonderful opportunity for our young people to bond, choose a house gift and share a new experience, creating lasting memories,” Dana said.
In the Goldfields, MinRes has supported the Goldfields Individual and Family Support Association (GIFSA) for the past four years through the program. GIFSA has used this year's donation to provide hampers and a Christmas lunch for clients without companionship to celebrate.
MinRes Director People Andrea Chapman reflected on her hopes for the impact of the Christmas Giving program.
"The festive season can be really difficult for many reasons, it can lead to feelings of isolation, financial pressure or bring up family conflicts." Andrea said.
"That's why its important to support organisations like St John of God Horizon House, Hedland's Women's Refuge and GIFSA. MinRes is proud to play a small part to help make a big difference for people using these services".
