Celebrating a decade of dinners with Ronald McDonald House WA

Mineral Resources (MinRes) has celebrated 10 years of partnership with Ronald McDonald House Western Australia – a collaboration that has delivered more than 1.2 million home-cooked meals to over 22,000 families with ill or injured children.

The partnership began when a group of MinRes employees started volunteering to cook meals at the charity's original 18-room House in Subiaco.

When Ronald McDonald House Western Australia opened its new QEII facility in December 2015, MinRes formalised its support by employing two chefs.

Today, MinRes chefs Tommy Zeng and Zi Chonnoo prepare close to 3,000 meals a week across three Ronald McDonald Houses – the 47-room facility at the QEII Medical Campus in Nedlands, the 14-room Parent Accommodation at Perth Children’s Hospital and the 50-room Ronald McDonald House on Park, which opened in August 2024 to accommodate more regional families.

More than 80% of the families who stay at Ronald McDonald House Western Australia come from regional areas. For these families – often hundreds of kilometres from home with their focus on treatment plans and hospital appointments – a warm meal at the end of the day offers comfort and one less burden to carry.

To mark the 10-year milestone, MinRes and Ronald McDonald House Western Australia have released A Decade of Dinners, a commemorative cookbook featuring beloved recipes from the House kitchens, treasured memories and the stories behind a partnership built on care, comfort and connection.

Printed copies of the cookbook will be gifted to families staying at Ronald McDonald House Western Australia and to its local team and volunteers who work tirelessly to help the House feel like home.

MinRes Managing Director Chris Ellison said the partnership reflected the company's commitment to supporting Western Australian families during their toughest moments.

"This partnership started with a handful of our people volunteering to cook for families. They saw the need, acted and inspired a spirit of generosity that laid the foundation for an extraordinary journey," Chris said.

"These families are going through an incredibly difficult time, often far from home. Knowing a warm meal is waiting every night takes away one worry so they can focus on what matters most – being there for their child.

"We're delighted to celebrate the past decade with this cookbook. When you cook one of these meals, we hope you think of the strength and resilience of those families and the incredible people who support them.”
