Len Collard
Whadjuk Noongar Elder
Perth Region, WA
Whadjuk Noongar Elder Len Collard comes from an unbroken link of elders past who educated him in leadership from an early age.
As a child living in the southwest corner of Western Australia he would sit and listen to these knowledge keepers speak with authority and power, sharing all they knew. Forewarning Len to prepare for the day when others would sit and listen to him. Reinforcing that he would become the critical knowledge bridge between them and future leaders.
He is committed to ensuring the next generation is ready for the responsibility of carrying forward their ancient knowledge and culture. For Len, being an elder leader comes down to very simple principles and practices that embrace care, consideration, ensuring people feel safe and the capacity to get people back on the right track if they drift. He believes these fundamentals are universal and apply across family units or global corporations.
Scholar, researcher and former Head of Indigenous studies at the University of Western Australia, he is a devoted and passionate language preserver, believing his destiny is to educate people about Noongar culture and history, so we can travel into the future together.
